Why does it take 7-10 business days to prepare my order before it is shipped to me? Most online stores ship the same day I order from them.
One of the key advantages of shopping at Jeannie's Bath & Body is that with few exceptions, your products aren't made until you order them. We don't stock a warehouse full of products that can sit for many months and then be picked and packed at a moment's notice. This ensures the freshest product possible for you, and the longest possible shelf life for your products once you receive them. Your products are handcrafted just for you . Many of our customers have expressed their preference for this method, and find that a little advance planning prevents running out of their favorite products.

I have really dry skin especially in the winter. I do have thyroid problems which cause dryness in skin. Which would be the best soap and lotion products for me? -

For general purpose hand and body cleansing, we recommend Honey Soap (All Varieties). Honey is a natural Humectant, which means it helps your skin retain moisture. Beeswax is featured in 2 of our Honey Soaps; it increases skins moisture and helps retain it. It is widely reputed to be beneficial in the treatment of Ezcema and Psoriasis. If you are interested in learning more about how Honey and other bee products can be of benefit, please visit our web page All About Honey. This page also features recipes for skin products you can make at home with Honey and other Bee Products.

Another soap that is terrific for dry skin and that can be used on the face as well as the body is our Baby Soap. Although it was developed for babies, to protect their skin due to diaper rash and frequent diaper changing, many "grown-ups" have also had great success with it.

For your face, we have a wonderful cleansing bar specifically developed for our customers with dry skin. It is our Chamomile Lavender Facial Bar. We worked with our most challenging customers with dry skin over time to develop the perfect bar that they can use daily for gentle, effective cleansing and exfoliation without leaving their face feeling dry.

Another product that is very popular in the winter for dry skin, nails, feet, etc. is our line of Luxury Lotion Bars. They are available in many scents as well as unscented. They are 3 inches long and 1 inch across, and work like a giant chapstick. In the winter, we recommend applying it across your nail beds in the morning, then massaging it into the rest of your hands. Our experience is that the one application in the morning keeps your hands and nails supple all day long - even with periodic hand washing.

For skin that needs even more intense coverage due to a mild rash, razor burn, or other irritation, try our Healing Balm. It is the same size and format as the Luxury Lotion Bars, but has additional nutrients to help heal skin that is damaged.

For all-over body moisture you can't beat Shea Magic. This is an absolutely amazing butter that can be applied anytime, all over your body, but is just perfect after your shower or bath. We can't make this butter fast enough!

What is the difference between the metal and wooden soap dishes - they both keep the soap dry, so is there any other advantage of one over the other?
For the most part, any dish that lifts the soap up and allows it to stay dry servea the same purpose. However, over time, even the finest constructed wooden dish will begin to discolor, and possibly even decay (depending on the humidity and water conditions). Therefore, the real advantage of a metal dish is that it lasts longer. The only other reason so select one over the other is your personal taste or décor.

I have extremely sensitive skin. What soap do you recommend? -
All of our soaps are very gentle; however one we recommend for babies and for anyone with very sensitive skin is our Baby Soap. It is loaded with Glycerin , Balsam of Peru , and Slippery Elm and has no added colors or fragrance.

Other great options for sensitive skin are our Honey Bee Soaps. In particular, check out our 'Just Honey', 'Honey Lavender', and 'Honey Vanilla' soaps. They are gentle, moisture preserving, and have positive effects on Eczema and Psorisis. To learn even more about Honey and other beneficial Bee products, read All About Honey.

Many customers with sensitve skin also recommend our Lavender Oatmeal Soap for it's gentle, soothing, and mildly exfoliating properties.

Another product enjoyed by many of my customers with sensitive skin issues is our Shea Body Butter. It is loaded with pure Shea Butter, Jojoba Oil, and Natural Vitamin E Oi. Many customers with dry, itchy skin, Ezcema, and Psoriasis have reported significant improvement from this product.

I only want to purchase all-natural products for my skin. Are all of your products all-natural, and are they all vegan? - All of our product ingredients are listed right on the website, and in our product catalog as well, so there are never any 'surprises' with your purchases. While we do use some pre-made, high quality bases for some of our soaps and lotions, most of our products are made completely 'from scratch'.

When people refer to 'all-natural' soap, they are usually referring to soap that is made from raw oils, butters, essential oils, and lye, using the cold process method, vs. from a glycerin soap base. Here at Jeannie's Soaps, we produce both types of soap. Most of the soaps in our Herbal Soaps section are made 'from scratch' using the cold process method, and most are all vegan. Most of our Designer Soaps are made from a certified vegan soap base . There are various 'camps' in the skincare business that argue the virtues of each type of soap. Some people prefer only the cold process soap, because there are no added chemicals or processes used to make the soap 'remeltable', and because all of the naturally formed glycerin (a natural by-product of cold-process soapmaking) is left intact. The competing 'camp' argues the virtues of a high quality vegan soap base, because such a base is actually enriched with glycerin and other additives that enhance lather and skin nourishing properties. At Jeannie's Soaps, we recognize the benefits and beauty of both types, and provide both for you, our customer. All of the ingredients are clearly listed, so you can choose the type you prefer with the confidence of knowing exactly what is in your soap.

In the lotion and scrubs categories, we produce almost exclusively 'from scratch' products. While a few products, such as our Vitamin E Therapy Lotion , are created from a high quality Glycerin Lotion Base , most of our products, such as our Healing Balm , Luxury Lotion Bars , Body Scrubs , Whipped Shea Butter , and Shea Body Butter are completely 'from scratch'.

Everything in our store is vegan, with these few exceptions: Honey Soap and Lavender Silk Soap .

I really like your goodie bags with every purchase, but wonder about the shipping. Am I being charged for the goodie bag shipping, or is it really free? - You pay for shipping only on the items you purchase. The additional weight of the goodie bags is paid for by Jeannie's Soaps. YES, it's really free! Here's another secret - When you purchase a gift to be mailed to some one else, the goodie bag will be mailed to YOU, the purchaser. We think you deserve a little something special too!

How much Vitamin E is contained in your Vitamin E Lotion? Also, does your Vitamin E lotion contain the entire, whole Vitamin? - We use all natural pure (whole) Vitamin E. The international units (IU) per gram are 250, and industry usage rate is recommended in the range of 1/10th to 1/4th of a percent (.1% - .25%). Our Vitamin E lotion contains 3.1% Vitamin E, well above the standard range found in most skin care products, ensuring a luxurious and skin pampering result.

Why does it matter which soap I use? - The largest organ in your body is your skin; it is your body's defense mechanism against outside impurities, and it maintains proper body temperature. You skin is also permeable and absorbs everything you put on it. Most commercial skin care products contain many unecessary, if not unhealthy, chemical addivives which are absorbed into your skin every time you use them. Using harsh chemicals and detergents on your skin compromises your immune system by damaging the Acid Mantle of your skin. Additionally, most commercial 'soaps' have had all of the glycerin removed from them (The glycerin is put into other products, such as lotion, which you buy because the soap leaves your skin so dry!). In contrast, using handcrafted soap - particularly cold processed varieties, ensures your skin is lavished with ample moisturizers and nutrients as you wash. By using handcrafted soap, you get the benefit of all of the naturally formed glycerin, as well as myriad other nutrients added to each recipe - all without harmful chemical additives. One other bonus - handcrafted soap is much kinder to our environment than commercial 'soaps' which contain harsh detergents. And as a special bonus, Jeannie's Soaps uses NO animal fats - we are commited to cruelty free products.

Does your soap contain Lye? - All soap is made from lye and fats; however the final product does not contain any lye. When lye and fats are mixed together properly, a process known as 'saponification' occurs. This is a chemical process in whicn lye and fats are transformed into soap, leaving no lye behind. You can be assured that our soaps are properly cured, completely lye-free and gentle to your skin.

What is the difference between Essential Oils and Fragrance Oils? - Essential Oils are derived directly from plants usually via steam distillation. They have no synthetic components, and come from a single plant. Fragrance Oils contain synthetically produced components, and may consist of multiple fragrances blended together to make the desired scent; alternatively multiple Essential may Oils blended together and referred to as a 'Fragrance Oil'. If you are seeking the homeopathic benefits of oils, you should use only Essential Oils or Essential Oil blends, because the synthetic scents would of course not contain the natural properties from the plants.

Do you use Essential Oils or Fragrance Oils in your products? - We use both EO's and FO's in our proudcts. All of our products have their ingredients listed on our web site and on each product label. Essential Oils are listed as such, for example 'Lavender Essential Oil'. Fragrances Oils are listed simply as 'Fragrances', for example 'Mango Fragrance'. Many fragrances, such as Strawberry and Mango are not produced as Essential Oils, and are only available as Fragrance Oils.

How Long do your soaps last? - Unopened, the shelf life of our soaps is 6-9 months. Once opened, they will retain scent for 2-3 months; however the life of the bar depends on its use. A single bar used daily for bathing should last 3-4 weeks if properly drained after each use. If you use the bar with a Sponge, Soap Saver Bag, or Loofa it will last even longer. It is important to use a well-draining soap dish to ensure the complete drying between uses. High quality dishes, sponges, and soap savers can be found here.

Do you offer Soapmaking Classes? - Yes, we conduct classes for up to 3 people at a time in my shop. Pricing and length depend on your interests.

NOTE: Until further notice, we will be unable to conduct classes. I am currently undergoing extensive medical treatmets; I fully expect to recover and resume classes at a later date.

How long does it take to make a batch of soap? - Cold Process soaps take 4 weeks. Melt and Pour soaps take 24 hours. Cold Process soaps are made by combining lye and fats to cause saponification (the transformation from lye/fats to soap). A full 4 weeks of 'curing' time is required in order to eliminate all lye from the mixture, and to properly harden the bar. Melt and Pour soaps are made by melting large blocks of ready-made vegan soap base, then adding colors & fragrances, and molding as desired. Both Melt and Pour and Cold Process soaps are available in our Store.

Do the Duck Boat and Frog on a Pond soaps float? - No. The rubber ducks and frogs will float by themselves after the soap is gone. None of our soaps float.... sorry!

How often should I use the detox patches? - For your first detox, we recommend using the patches nightly for one month. After the initial regimen, we recommend using patches one night per week thereafter. However, individual results and needs can vary. The real test lies in the condition of the patch after it is removed. As the body detoxifies, the patch will become lighter and less 'gooey' when you remove them in the morning. This typically takes one month of nightly use to achieve, but your body may require more or less than one month. Similarly, your maintenance schedule could differ. You may need more than one night per week for maintenance. We recommend you start with our guidelines, and adjust if necessary as you use the patches and observe the condition of them when they are removed in the morning.
